Business Journal Fosters Growth

Every quarter I take time to review my progress and accomplishments to the goals I set at the beginning of the year. Goal setting is critical for me to move my business forward and to transition it into new and exciting areas.

Tea break time at workStaying on target with your bigger goals can be challenging — particularly when LIFE gets in the way! I have found a solution to help me with this very thing – my business journal.

Every day when I write in my journal I am reminded about what I did that day, what is still left for tomorrow, thoughts and ideas that passed through my mind, and who I connected with.

I’m not a person who has had a personal diary throughout my life.  Instead, my journalling started when I was trying to find a system that would allow me to stay focused and on target – not just with the day to day side of my business, but with the bigger picture!

I also found that as good as journalling was for me, I couldn’t keep making the big strides I’ve set for myself so I reached out and now I also belong to a mastermind group and a coaching program.  These options help me hone and fine-tune my actions and to continue my learning process and growth trajectory.

Business journalling offers your an opportunity to reflect on what you’ve learned, remember the decisions you’ve made and why you made them, keep track of what works and what doesn’t, record insights, ideas and more.

I share this information with you because you may want to achieve more and yet the results of your efforts are falling short, or you feel frustrated because the pace is too slow or you feel alone and unsupported. We all can experience these feelings at one time or another but its up to you to take the necessary action to change the situation.
A complimentary business assessment session offers you an opportunity to focus on where you are now and the key action steps you can take to achieve your goals.

Productivity Booster

Recently I read an article featured in Forbes, entitled “The #1 Productivity Tool You Aren’t Using”.  In this article, contributor Dorie Clark shared insights from Harvard Business School professor Teresa Amabile’s new book “The Progress Principle: Using Small Wins to Ignite Joy, Engagement, and Creativity at Work.”  I have now begun to read the book and I’m enjoying it. Don’t Fall Off Course!

With the introduction of my new Business Leadership Journal, so many people have taken action to set themselves up for success in 2012 by purchasing their own copy of the Journal.  This is no small feat!  The book is letter sized (A4) and 5 cm (1.5 inches) thick!  Fortunately the coil binding makes it manageable!

The journal guides you through a year long system that keeps you on the mark.  The perpetual format lets you start at any time.  Take it one day at a time and before you know it you will create new habits, new ways to view your business and career actions and results.

Lately I have been helping many business professionals (both employed and self-employed) set their goals for the up-coming year.  There are so many components to setting and achieving your goals.  This week, I am speaking about some of the reasons my journal can help you raise the bar and accomplish more! Write it Down & Achieve Success

Do you journal regularly?  Have you tried it and then gradually ‘fall out of habit’?  Well, you are not alone!
Journalling does require you to create a new habit but it’s a habit is strongly linked to success.  Who’s success — yours, if you journal.

A look at successful leaders throughout time reveals they all journal in some way.  Journalling help them gain the clarity of their vision, learn from successes and mistakes, and capture ideas when the iron strikes.  Proponents of journalling state that putting pen to paper to write your vision and goals, sets a stronger intention and makes them seem more real than if you were to type that information into a computer.  I have to agree with this suggestion.  Every year I write (or draw) my plan for the year and all the milestones I want to achieve.  I tried using a mindmap software program and writing my list of goals, also using the computer.  After about 2 months I realized that I didn’t have a strong connection to my plan and went back to pen and paper (and colouring pencils) and copied the information from the computer on to the paper.  After this change, I was much more connected and successful in achieving what I set out to accomplish. Eyes Wide Open

For those of you who have been following my blog for the past month, you know that I have undertaken a huge change in my business and my branding.  This change started about one year ago and required a lot of dedicated focus and decision making along the way as I visualized, clarified, implemented, tweaked things at every stage.  Most importantly the process hasn’t ended!

The past month since I launched Ignite Leadership International has been an exciting one, making the hard work worthwhile.  What I have found that forcing myself to re-position my business and stay focused on a few major goals has allowed me to also see so many new opportunities that align with my vision, mission and values.   It has also allowed me to better communicate who I am, what I do and with whom.  This has attracted the right people into my life.   I have located joint venture partners, new clients, new business tools and programs to better support my clients and I am more content.
