How Conversations Will Help Your Business

According to research conducted by Gallop, trusting conversations between a manager and their employees is the best way to engage employees.  Engaged employees are happier, more productive (c) alexwhite www.fotosearch.com Stock Photographyand innovated.  These factors boost the success a business can achieve.

So, my question for you, how do you, as a manager, leader or entrepreneur (particularly if you are at the top) stay motivated and engaged?

A New Approach

I am thrilled to be introducing a new program designed to stimulate great conversation between participants, help you learn more about key business successes, and motivate you personally and professionally to take action and lead change.

Leading business books like Good to Great, the Purple Cow, Pivot, Developing the Leader within You and many more offer readers great success insights that can help each of us be better at what we do.

How many of these insights do you implement after reading a book?

If you’re saying to yourself, not too many, you are not alone.  We are all busy and implementing new habits into our busy lives is difficult without daily commitments to yourself and your goals. Consistency = change success.

Amplify Learning

Coffee and Conversations offers a unique approach to network with other motivated, like-minded business leaders, help identify and extract key learnings from leading business books, dissect and share insights with the group, and create an action item you can commit to for 30 days.  Our daily on-line check-ins take less than 2 minutes a day for 30 days but, most importantly, they keep your action item top of mind.conversations-iphone

Unlike book clubs where you must commit to reading a different book each month, Coffee and Conversations provides you with a short synopsis of the book which take about 10 minutes to read prior to the meeting.  During the meeting, your Leader will facilitate discussion by asking probing or thought-provoking questions. This approach not only amplifies your learning, it also saves you time and improves your own engagement in your job.

Will You Join Me?

Join me in late March 2017 for our first 4-month Coffee & Conversation series.  I will be hosting a group in the Metro Vancouver area, and an on-line group via video-conference.  Space is limited for each group to ensure each participant has an opportunity to share.

3 R’s of Goals – Will You Be Prepared?

We are now 8 1/2 months into 2012 —

have you completed at least seventy five percent of your annual goals?

August is always a great time to review what you have accomplished so far  and to consider what changes are needed to meet your annual goals.  My strategic goals are such an important component in my business success.  My strategic  goals  are the longer term goals that I want to achieve in the coming year.  Each quarter I create quarterly, and then monthly goals which will keep me on track and focused on what I want to achieve while I maintain a successful business and continually introduce new tools, programs and products. LIfe is Full of Turbulence

Today at the Olympics, Canadian swimmer bronze medalist, Brent Hayden, won the bronze  medal in the men’s 100m freestyle.  In his post event interview, Hayden said life is full of turbulence but you have to build bridges and when you have a strong foundation you cross the bridge and cut through the turbulence. Are You Ready for Change?

Last week I was fortunate to attend a speakers meeting.  Everyone attending the event was a speaker in their field.  The format of the meeting was quite similar to a Toastmasters meeting but each of us was asked to make two short impromptu presentations.

The topic for the meeting was “That’s My Story and I’m Sticking With It”.  When I was first told about the topic I was not very clear how I could incorporate that topic into a short presentation.  On my way to the meeting, I realized that the best topic to speak on was change! [Read more…]

And Your Answer Is…?

Stretch Goals…Step Forward & Grow

How high do you set your personal and business standards?  In my mastermind group we determined that we all set the bar pretty high for ourselves and we are committed to reaching and exceeding our own goals and performance standards.  Each of us has been an entrepreneur for several years and have each enjoyed many successes.  We also set the bar high when we were in school and in our prior careers.  As a successful mastermind group that has been together for 3 years our commitment to each other’s success is a testament of our high standards.  Our mastermind provides a solid, safe place to face our fears, brainstorm ideas and celebrate our successes.  In order to achieve our goals and dreams, each member of our group sets business and personal goals that will move us forward and allow us to grow. These are stretch goals.

Stretch goals are commonly referred to in the business world as a way to achieve more.  Stretch goals require a person or business to ambitiously extend itself  beyond what seems realistic within current paramentersJohn Miller wrote about the conflict between stretch goals and smart goals in his blog.  Here is the acronym he presented to explain how the two fit together:

“S = SMART goals that

T = teach an organization how to

R = reach higher levels of performance by

E = engaging everyone in

T = testing hypotheses through

C = cross-functional cooperation

H = in a humane fashion.”

Setting the bar high should be reflected in your performance as well.  Is the quality of the product you offer your customers reflective of your standards?  Continuous quality improvement will occur when you continually reassess current systems, standards and outcomes and then set the bar higher.  Rejig to keep things current, and to maintain quality and performance — it also keeps life challenging and interesting!

Elevating operations, goals, expectations and deliverables takes planning and dedicated effort.  A Coach or Mentor or Mastermind Group can help make you stretch and achieve your goals by keeping you accountable.  I challenge you to raise the bar in business and your own life and reap the rewards that follow.

Can a Coach Help You Succeed?

Is a Coach Right for You?

As I have been growing my new business, I have been asked by many people why a person would hire a coach, and what I bring to the table that would benefit my clients.  These are great questions and ones worth responding to… so I am taking the liberty to respond in this article.

What is a Coach?
According the the Sherpa Executive Coaching Survey, “Executive coaching means regular meetings between a business leader and a trained facilitator, designed to produce positive changes in business behavior in a limited time frame.”  Sherpa also indicates that business coaching is the new term for business consulting, whereby the Coach works to develop a clients knowledge and skill.  Regardless of which type of coach you want, a coach will facilitate a positive change on a set schedule in a limited time period.   A Life Coach focuses on your personal life and relationships, rather than on business activities and business behaviour. Contrasts of Life

As I travelled from meeting to meeting today, I observed, heard and experienced so many situations that were such contrasts.  Here are some of the scenarios…

Scenario 1: A mother walking with her toddler down the road was dressed in a parka with the jacket closed and fur-lined hood was up and drawn tight.  On the opposite side of the street was a middle-aged man dressed in a Hawaiian style short-sleeved shirt, shorts and sandals walking his dogs. Lead Grow Succeed

The past couple of weeks have been a challenge for me as I try to balance competing priorities.  It is an exciting time as my business continues to grow and develop both in the ways I set out to achieve last year and in ways I hadn’t even considered!.  During my networking meetings I have heard so many professionals and business owners speaking on the challenges they face in their lives, career and business.  I am sure you can relate to this.

While at the BC Home & Garden Show in February, TV personality Bryan Baeumler spoke about the success and failures of home “do-it-yourselfers”.  His take is that most DIY’ers make more mistakes than successes because they don’t go far enough.  Instead they focus on the “pretty”, leaving a rat’s nest in place – untouched. Do you have a sense of uninspired leadership?
Are you isolated or feeling unsupported?

If you answered yes, our Leadership Mastermind programs are for you.

A mastermind group is also referred to as a peer mentoring group or personal board of directors. Napoleon Hill shared the concept in his book “Think and Grow Rich” [Read more…]
