How Conversations Will Help Your Business

According to research conducted by Gallop, trusting conversations between a manager and their employees is the best way to engage employees.  Engaged employees are happier, more productive (c) alexwhite www.fotosearch.com Stock Photographyand innovated.  These factors boost the success a business can achieve.

So, my question for you, how do you, as a manager, leader or entrepreneur (particularly if you are at the top) stay motivated and engaged?

A New Approach

I am thrilled to be introducing a new program designed to stimulate great conversation between participants, help you learn more about key business successes, and motivate you personally and professionally to take action and lead change.

Leading business books like Good to Great, the Purple Cow, Pivot, Developing the Leader within You and many more offer readers great success insights that can help each of us be better at what we do.

How many of these insights do you implement after reading a book?

If you’re saying to yourself, not too many, you are not alone.  We are all busy and implementing new habits into our busy lives is difficult without daily commitments to yourself and your goals. Consistency = change success.

Amplify Learning

Coffee and Conversations offers a unique approach to network with other motivated, like-minded business leaders, help identify and extract key learnings from leading business books, dissect and share insights with the group, and create an action item you can commit to for 30 days.  Our daily on-line check-ins take less than 2 minutes a day for 30 days but, most importantly, they keep your action item top of mind.conversations-iphone

Unlike book clubs where you must commit to reading a different book each month, Coffee and Conversations provides you with a short synopsis of the book which take about 10 minutes to read prior to the meeting.  During the meeting, your Leader will facilitate discussion by asking probing or thought-provoking questions. This approach not only amplifies your learning, it also saves you time and improves your own engagement in your job.

Will You Join Me?

Join me in late March 2017 for our first 4-month Coffee & Conversation series.  I will be hosting a group in the Metro Vancouver area, and an on-line group via video-conference.  Space is limited for each group to ensure each participant has an opportunity to share.

What Steps are You Taking to be More Than Green(TM)?

October is Power Smart month.  Although this program is promoted by BC Hydro (the provincial utility company) it is a program I believe is important.  It is a reminder that each of us – as individuals, businesses and industries should be taking stock of how we use power in our everyday life.

More Than Green™

A key component of Ignite Leadership International is our More Than Green ™ approach to business.   This program is integrated into everything we do – individually, as a team, as a business and as members of our community. [Read more…]

Lead Grow Succeed

The past couple of weeks have been a challenge for me as I try to balance competing priorities.  It is an exciting time as my business continues to grow and develop both in the ways I set out to achieve last year and in ways I hadn’t even considered!.  During my networking meetings I have heard so many professionals and business owners speaking on the challenges they face in their lives, career and business.  I am sure you can relate to this.

While at the BC Home & Garden Show in February, TV personality Bryan Baeumler spoke about the success and failures of home “do-it-yourselfers”.  His take is that most DIY’ers make more mistakes than successes because they don’t go far enough.  Instead they focus on the “pretty”, leaving a rat’s nest in place – untouched. Don’t Fall Off Course!

With the introduction of my new Business Leadership Journal, so many people have taken action to set themselves up for success in 2012 by purchasing their own copy of the Journal.  This is no small feat!  The book is letter sized (A4) and 5 cm (1.5 inches) thick!  Fortunately the coil binding makes it manageable!

The journal guides you through a year long system that keeps you on the mark.  The perpetual format lets you start at any time.  Take it one day at a time and before you know it you will create new habits, new ways to view your business and career actions and results.

Lately I have been helping many business professionals (both employed and self-employed) set their goals for the up-coming year.  There are so many components to setting and achieving your goals.  This week, I am speaking about some of the reasons my journal can help you raise the bar and accomplish more! Is it Time to Reach Higher?

At the beginning of every year, it is important to set your goals and create an action plan to guide you along the way.  Staying on target can be challenging — particularly when LIFE gets in the way!  Every day when I write in my journal I realize how great this one tool is to keep me focused and on target.  To support my journalling, I also belong to a mastermind group and a coaching program.  Each tool plays a specific role in the entire process. A Special Deal

I  introduced our new Business Leadership Journal earlier this month.  In honour of my Grandfather’s birthday (a good reason for a special price), I decided to offer a special price.  I’m excited about this new business / career tool that will keep you focused and accountable to your goals and plans and learning from your setbacks and successes. Do You Only Rise to the Occasion?

Motivation has been on my mind a lot in recent weeks.  I know I recently wrote about whether motivation is born within us or learned.  (I hope you’ll take a few minutes to review that article).  As an avid Vancouver Canucks fan, I watched the Boston game this past Saturday where the Canucks were on their game, followed by Monday’s game against the Florida Panthers, where the game was slow and unexciting.  The rivalry for the Bruins game was high, especially after the Stanley Cup Finals in June 2011.  On the other hand, getting that same motivation for a team that most likely isn’t a play-off contender, and they only play once a year is a lot more difficult. Add SPARK to Your First Impression

On Saturday afternoon, I had the pleasure of speaking to the Young Women in Business – Simon Fraser University group.  This group of young business students are very astute and soak in information.  Maureen McKinnon began the afternoon session with her “May the Force Be With You” presentation on resumes, portfolios and interviews.  Even I learned some new tips.

I was the second speaker.  My presentation focused on making a good first impression.  More about this in a moment.  I was followed by Chelle Morgan who helped us with her fashion and cost saving ideas — a great job.  Lastly, the YWiB executive shared tips on dinner etiquette.  A wonderful addition to a well rounded program.
